Augusta, GA – The award-winning Cavani String Quartet will kick off the Westobou Festival at Augusta State on Thursday, Sept. 16, at 7:30 p.m. The quartet, a recipient of the Naumberg Chamber Music Award, will feature guest pianist, Clara Park. Park, an ASU music instructor, has received international acclaim as both a soloist and chamber musician. Augusta State University’s annual Lyceum Series will kick off this season with a performance by the internationally acclaimed Silk Road Ensemble on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. in the Maxwell Theatre. The performance is also part of the city’s celebration of the Westobou Festival.
Silk Road Ensemble explores the relationship between tradition and innovation in music and since its inception in 1998, has brought together musicians, composers, artists, and audiences from over 20 countries. They have commissioned over 60 works from international composers and have reached thousands of people at sold-out performances throughout Europe, Asia, and North America. They have performed in such venues as Carnegie Hall, Millinium Park, and the Hollywood Bowl in America. Read the full story
