			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Augusta, Ga.</strong> – The campus at Augusta State University will be charged with excitement, fun, food, and games as new and returning students are welcomed to ASU for the fall semester. Beginning Monday, Aug. 17, the annual Week of Welcome will kick-off with What’s the Scoop? from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Jaguar Student Activities Center Breezeway with students learning about student and campus organizations and making ice cream sundaes. Programs scheduled during the Week of Welcome include:<span id="more-1667"></span></p>
<p>Aug. 18<br />
Recess and Cookout. 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Flag Pole/Sports Field. Students will take part in recess games including dodge ball, tug of war, and kick ball.</p>
<p>Aug. 19</p>
<p>Buffalo Bingo and Wing Special. Noon-2 p.m., D. Douglas Barnard, Jr., Amphitheatre. ASU’s resident cowboy, Professor Michael Searles, will again be the bingo caller for this game that includes buffalo wings and prizes.<br />
Aug. 20</p>
<p>ASU’s Next Top Model. Noon-1 p.m., JSAC Breezeway. Faculty, staff, and students will model the latest in collegiate fashions as Joyce Jones, vice president of student services and dean of students, serves as emcee.</p>
<p>Lip Sync Contest. 1-2 p.m., JSAC Breezeway. Students will showcase their talents as they lip-sync to the hits.</p>
<p>Guest speaker, Merrill Norton. 7-8:30 p.m., JSAC Ballroom. Dr. Norton will present information about the effects of alcohol on the brain.<br />
Aug. 22</p>
<p>ASU’s Day of Service. 8 a.m.-noon, Augusta Canal. ASU students will assist in the canal cleanup.</p>

<p>The summer break is almost over, and the fall semester is quickly approaching.  So to make sure all new and returning Augusta State University students start the year off right, the ASU staff, faculty, and alumni are inviting all to participate in the Week of Welcome activities.</p>
<p>The fun will begin on Saturday, Aug. 16, with a Foam Party at the University Village. This will give students a chance to wash away those end-of-summer blues.<span id="more-300"></span></p>
<p>On Monday, Aug. 18, students will get the opportunity to receive details on campus activities, programs, and services at What’s the Scoop? In addition to this event, be sure to register for ASU’s Deal or No Deal Case game to win money for books, laundry, food, and much more.</p>
<p>Enjoy great food and fellowship while you meet the coaches of ASU’s athletic teams at the Coaches Cookout on Tuesday, Aug. 19. While you are there, be sure to pick up freebies and schedules of all the games.</p>
<p>On Thursday, Aug.21, watch students hit the runway in hopes of becoming ASU’s Top Model. Also that day, learn how to make the right decisions about drinking in the Deadly Decisions Alcohol Awareness Seminar.</p>
<p>On Friday, Aug. 22, bring your lawn chairs and join us for a concert and fireworks display at the D. Douglas Barnard, Jr., Amphitheatre. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and the fireworks start at 9:15 p.m. Admission is free.</p>
<p>The Week of Welcome will end on Saturday, Aug. 22, with An Evening @ Adventure Crossing. Free laser tag, Go-cart riding, Putt-Putt, and video gaming will be given to the first 200 students that sign up in the Office of Students Activities. To reserve your ticket, you must bring your JagCard with you when you sign up. Dinner will be provided and will be catered by Rhineharts’s Oyster Bar.</p>
