Highlighting the month’s activities is a program, Thursday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m. in 170 University Hall, by Dr. Mallory Millender, former Paine College professor, on America’s Debt to Haiti. Dr. Millender has written several articles including Haiti: African-American Contact to 1960, which was published in the Journal of Caribbean Studies in 2005. He is a former first vice president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The Alabama native has also served on the board of the directors for the American Red Cross and the Sickle Cell Center.

Witness the Civil Rights Movements from 1954-1985 in the award-winning documentary series, Eyes on the Prize. This film series will be presented on two Wednesdays, Feb. 17 and Feb. 24, at noon and 7 p.m. in 170 University Hall. The series has garnered six Emmys and numerous other awards including an Academy Award nomination, the George Foster Peabody Award, and the top DuPont-Columbia Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism.

The month activities conclude with the African American High School Scholar Program, to be held Thursday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m. in the JSAC Ballroom. During the program, outstanding students representing more than 35 high schools throughout the CSRA will be honored.
