Augusta, Ga.- Each year Augusta State observes Black History Month in February by hosting a month-long series of events to honor the African- Americans who have contributed to America’s history and culture.
Highlighting the month’s activities is a program, Thursday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m. in 170 University Hall, by Dr. Mallory Millender, former Paine College professor, on America’s Debt to Haiti. Dr. Millender has written several articles including Haiti: African-American Contact to 1960, which was published in the Journal of Caribbean Studies in 2005. He is a former first vice president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The Alabama native has also served on the board of the directors for the American Red Cross and the Sickle Cell Center. Read the full story
