Free concert and fireworks show


Augusta, Ga.-Augusta State University rocks for A Day with a concert and fireworks show on Friday, Oct. 3, in the D. Douglas Barnard, Jr., Amphitheatre. The concert, which features John Krueger and Blue Cotton, will kick off at 6 p.m. The fireworks show will begin at 9:30 p.m.

New need-based scholarship


Augusta, Ga. - A new need-based scholarship is being offered at Augusta State that provides full tuition and mandatory fees for four academic years.  Applications for the Regents’ Foundation Scholarship are available in the financial aid office and the deadline for application is October 6.

Eligibility requirements: must be incoming freshman for fall 2008; must be federal Pell Grant eligible; must be a resident of Georgia; must have a high school grade point average between 2.5 and 2.9; and cannot be Hope Scholarship eligible.

Applications are available in ASU’s Financial Aid office. Please call financial aid for further information, 706-737-1431.

ASU to host Literary Tent and Cafe


Augusta, Ga. - Augusta State University authors will be featured in this year’s Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival, Sept. 19-21, with Dr. Robert Parham, dean of the Pamplin College of Arts and Sciences, kicking off the events in the Literary Café.

Dr. Parham, who also serves as editor of the Southern Poetry Review, will present a program at the Meet and Greet Author Reception, 6-9 p.m., on Friday, Sept. 19, in the café. Saturday’s events run from 11 a.m. through 8:45 p.m., beginning with a panel discussion at 11 a.m., Publishers Perspective for Writers. The panel will address the publishing process from the publishers’ perspective, from query letter to advances and contracts, and will feature three publishers/editors. Read the full story

President’s Club Luncheon


Augusta, Ga. - The annual luncheon of Augusta State University’s President’s Club will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at noon.

The event serves as the start of the community campaign of A Day for Augusta State University, an annual campaign that raises friends and funds for the university. ASU alumnus Phil Wahl, senior vice president for CSRA Community Banking at Wachovia, is chairing the community campaign. The luncheon also marks the close of the campus campaign of A Day which was led by Hubert and Debra van Tuyll, professors of history and communications, respectively. Read the full story

Celebrate A Day at First Friday


Augusta, Ga. – Visitors to First Friday can show their Jaguar Pride at Augusta State University’s tent downtown, on the corners of 10th and Broad Streets, to celebrate A Day for ASU on Sept. 5, from 5-9 p.m.
In celebration of A Day, the university will be sponsoring a tent for Augusta’s First Friday, along with live music from ASU alumni, faculty, staff and students.  A Day and university memorabilia will be available.
