Augusta, Ga.- At the age of 38, Ronald Kruszewski took the helm of a then-regional brokerage and investment banking firm in 1997 and turned it from a $135 million company into one of the top firms in the nation with record 2009 revenue of $1.1 billion, its 14th consecutive year of record revenue. His success as the chairman and CEO of Stifel Financial Corp. and Stifel, Nicolaus & Company, Inc., earned him recognition as the 2008 Entrepreneur of the Year in the Financial Services category from Ernst and Young—an honor he shared with others in the company who have the same “entrepreneurial” spirit. Mr. Kruszewski will discuss his success and experience as Stifel’s chairman and CEO in the Hull College of Business’ MBA Executive Speaker Series Thursday, March 11, at 5:30 p.m. in 170 University Hall at Augusta State University. Augusta, Ga. – Illegal immigration in Aiken County, scientific investigations, and the politics of security are a few of the topics to be highlighted in the 11th Annual Student Research and Fine Arts Conference at Augusta State University. The conference, sponsored by ASU’s chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, will be held Wednesday, March 10, from noon to 4:30 p.m. in the Jaguar Student Activities Center. Augusta, Ga. – A small-scale device that may be used by a homeowner to improve soil fertility has been created by two Augusta State students. Alexander Bauer, with the help of Jeremy Robinson, began the research for their BioChar Project in summer 2009 and constructed the biochar device last semester. Read the full story

Augusta, Ga. – Nearly half of the members of the Klu Klux Klan who live in South Carolina reside in Aiken County. In April, the white supremacist group is scheduled to hold a rally in Clearwater, S.C., but this has led to many in the community speaking out against the gathering of the organization in their neighborhood.
