Augusta, Ga. – Four thousand nine hundred nineteen. That is the number of cars the students at Augusta State University will need to wash in eight hours at multiple venues in order to be entered into the Guinness Book of World Records.
This free- carwash event will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at local car dealerships including Gerald Jones Honda and Sunbelt Nissan on Washington Road. Students also will be washing cars at the Gerald Jones Honda and Gordon Chevrolet dealerships on Gordon Highway. The public is invited to bring their cars. Read the full story

Physics professor Trinanjan Datta has garnered national recognition by being named an Anacapa Scholar, a prestigious honor recognizing his involvement in undergraduate research. The award was presented from the Anacapa Society, a professional organization based at Amherst College that promotes research in all areas of theoretical and computational physics at primarily undergraduate institutions. Augusta, Ga. – A new $27 million academic building for Augusta State University is one step closer to reality following the submission of an external design of the building from the architects.
The design incorporates months of planning with input from many campus representatives, said Jeff Foley, assistant vice president for campus development at ASU. “Great progress has been made in the design phase of the new building. Studio 3 Design Group, P.C., along with 2KM Architects have done an outstanding job of incorporating the needs of the Hull College of Business and the Department of Nursing,” he said. Augusta, Ga. – Augusta State University will host several events in remembrance of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Augusta, Ga. – The unveiling of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Monument will take place this weekend in Washington, DC . The unveiling also coincides with the 48th anniversary of King’s I Have a Dream Speech which occurred on the Mall in Washington in 1963. Larry Rivers, lecturer in the Department of History, Anthropology, and Philosophy, is available to provide commentary on the significance of the monument as well as Civil Rights history.
