Manuscript consultations, live folk concert, and open mic readings will highlight the 35th Annual Sandhills Writers Conference, being held at Augusta State from Thursday, March 18 through Friday, March 20 at Galloway Hall. Registration is necessary for the conference; however, several free programs are presented by conference participants. Augusta, Ga. – A prominent feature of the James M. Hull College of Business at Augusta State University is its emphasis on real-world experience that leads to personal and business success. As the college celebrates its 20th year of bringing those experiences to the classroom through its Visiting Executives Week, Hull students will have the opportunity to hear first-hand from 40 local executives. From Sondheim’s hits through today’s blockbusters, including Les Miserables, The Producers, Wicked, The Light in the Piazza, and the Tony award-winning revival show, Hair! Experience the last 50 years of some of Broadway’s classics in the Augusta State University production of An Evening on Broadway II on Tuesday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. in ASU’s Maxwell Theatre. Augusta, Ga.- Each year Augusta State observes Black History Month in February by hosting a month-long series of events to honor the African- Americans who have contributed to America’s history and culture.
Highlighting the month’s activities is a program, Thursday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m. in 170 University Hall, by Dr. Mallory Millender, former Paine College professor, on America’s Debt to Haiti. Dr. Millender has written several articles including Haiti: African-American Contact to 1960, which was published in the Journal of Caribbean Studies in 2005. He is a former first vice president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The Alabama native has also served on the board of the directors for the American Red Cross and the Sickle Cell Center. Read the full story

ASU Unplugged presents an encore acoustic performance by the three-man Australian band Sick Puppies on Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. in the Jaguar Student Activities Center Ballroom. The Sick Puppies’ are known for their song All the Same which was adopted for the Free Hugs Campaign. This performance is sponsored by the Office of Student Activities and 95Rock.
