Augusta, Ga. – A Master of Education in Teacher Leadership—the first such degree offered in the state based on national teacher leader standards and proposed Georgia teacher leader standards—will enroll its first students at Augusta State University in the spring 2011 semester. Augusta, Ga. - A million dollar grant to Augusta State University will support the study of science and math education at ASU for participating students who, upon graduation and certification, commit to teaching in one of four rural counties in the university’s service area.
The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $1,110,509 grant to ASU, which will provide about $15,000 a year to 18 students who enter a new five-year integrated program that combines a bachelor’s degree in science education with a master’s degree in teaching. Graduates will teach in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) areas in one of the four counties—Burke, McDuffie, Jefferson, or Warren counties upon their graduation and certification as K-12 teachers. Augusta, Ga. – As technology evolves, hackers are becoming more sophisticated in their attacks targeting sensitive information of financial, research, and government agencies. As a result, many wonder whether there is ever such a thing as perfect security.
Computer forensics expert Rob Lee says there are ways that companies can protect their information from these advanced persistent threats (APT). During a free program held on Thursday, Aug. 12, from 9-11 a.m. in 170 University Hall at Augusta State University, Lee will use anonymous, in-depth case studies to demonstrate how hackers gain access into these networks. Augusta, GA –The Augusta area receives a substantial economic benefit—$1.2 billion—from the presence of Augusta State University (ASU) and the Medical College of Georgia (MCG), according to a new study released by the University System of Georgia (USG). ASU’s impact of over $193 million and MCG’s impact of $1 billion are part of a $12.7 billion economic impact of the 35 institutions in Georgia’s public university system on the state’s economy during Fiscal Year 2009. The institutions of the University System of Georgia generated nearly three percent of the state’s total jobs during that time. Read the full story

Augusta, Ga. – Augusta State University has received a $419,520 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to fund a Savannah River Scholars Program (SRSP).
The new program will be under the direction of Andrew Hauger, chair of the Department of Chemistry and Physics, and Sam Robinson, chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. It will integrate research and education as well as foster an increased diversity in NSF programs, projects, and activities. Read the full story
