Augusta, Ga.— The Augusta State University Conservatory ensemble Sand Hills String Band will use music to raise money to support a charity that helps people who have visual disabilities.
Hope for Sight will be held on Friday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Augusta. A silent auction and dessert reception will accompany the concert. Read the full story

Augusta, Ga. – Augusta State’s student publication, The Bell Ringer, won a record-breaking 13 awards at the Georgia College Press Association (GCPA) conference held recently in Athens.
“The student reporters and editors at The Bell Ringer are a hard-working bunch who really care about good journalism. These awards are solid validation of their efforts and a reminder that commitment to their readers, dedication to their craft, and quality work all pay off,” said Matthew Bosisio, Bell Ringer advisor and associate professor in ASU’s Department of Communications and Professional Writing. Augusta, Ga. – “No areas for improvement” was the finding of the examiners from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) who completed their review of the College of Education at Augusta State University on February 7.
“This is a phenomenal achievement for the College of Education and the university. The leadership team for the College of Education has done a remarkable job by not only meeting the NCATE standards, but exceeding them. This is a tremendous affirmation for the university as we move forward into consolidation,” said Carol Rychly, acting vice president for academic affairs. Read the full story

Augusta, Ga. – Visiting poet Craig Blais will present a poetry reading on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. in the Jaguar Student Activities Center Coffeehouse at Augusta State University.
His poems have appeared in various journals and anthologies, including Best New Poets, Spoon River Poetry Review, Bellingham Review, Hayden’s Ferry Review, Sentence, and The Pinch.
