National Education Association awards grant to ASU student organization
The student chapter of the Georgia Education Association (GEA) at Augusta State University has received a $2,000 SOAR Grant from the National Education Association (NEA). This marks the first time the NEA has awarded this grant to the student organization.
“We are so honored to have received this generous gift from the NEA,” said Paulette Harris, chapter advisor and Cree-Walker Chair in the College of Education and Department of Educational Leadership, Counseling, and Special Education. “The funding will truly help us offer more learning opportunities to meet the needs of the organization.”
According to Harris, the funding will be used toward the organization hosting four membership rallies next year. Harris said the first rally will be held in the spring, but a date has not been scheduled. Harris said the funding will also assist with the organization’s community involvement activities such as giving Christmas gifts to children living at Hope House, Inc.,of Augusta.
“As educators, we value helping the community in any way we can ,” Harris said. “So, for the holiday season, we are thankful the SOAR Grant will allow us to continue our yearly efforts in giving gifts to children living at the Hope House.”
