The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines, has named the Augusta State University chapter of Phi Kappa Phi as a Chapter of Excellence, the highest recognition a chapter can receive from the organization.
According to Phi Kappa Phi officials, the award is given to chapters that excel in recognizing and promoting academic excellence in all fields of higher education and engaging the community of scholars in service to others.
The Chapter of Excellence distinction is a part of the Society’s Chapter Recognition Program, which acknowledged 73 chapters with recognition this year, including ASU being among the 19 as a Chapter of Excellence.
By receiving this award, the Augusta State chapter is recognized as an organization that meets frequently, holds annual initiations, and applies frequently for Phi Kappa Phi’s select scholarships, grants, and fellowships.
“We are so very pleased to learn that we won the Phi Kappa Phi Chapter of Excellence award,” said Kim Davies, ASU’s Phi Kappa Phi chapter president and chair of ASU’s Department of Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Social Work. “We have many active members who work hard to make Phi Kappa Phi an active and important presence on our campus. We have faculty, staff, and students who go beyond their jobs on literacy programs, our undergraduate research conference, and to personally ‘tap’ all of the students who qualify for induction.” She continued, “I am very proud to be a member of such an active and prestigious organization.”
Since being named a Chapter of Excellence, Augusta State will receive a commendation letter from the Society, special recognition on the Society’s website and publications, specially designed logo for use in chapter communications, recognition advertisements in local media and educational journals, and a $500 award.
