Consolidation Update
President Bloodworth and GHSU President Ricardo Azziz provided updates as well as answered questions on the consolidation process at two open forums held April 23 on the campuses of ASU and GHSU. The combined forums included more than 250 faculty, staff, students, and community members.
This was the second joint open forum to take place since the announcement of the consolidation of the two universities. Tuition, jobs, university culture, parking, athletics, and more topics were addressed. The sessions were taped and will be posted on the consolidation website. Also on the consolidation website, there is a list of frequently asked questions and a timeline for consolidation activities.
The new mission statement for the consolidated “New U” that was crafted from input of GHSU and ASU faculty, staff, and students is also on the consolidation website. The mission has been accepted by the 21-member implementation team, chaired by Dr. Azziz, and submitted to the Board of Regents for approval.
Mission
Our mission is to provide leadership and excellence in teaching, discovery, clinical care, and service as a student-centered comprehensive research university and academic health center with a wide range of programs from learning assistance through postdoctoral studies.
Submissions are still being sought for a new name for the “New U”. Dr. Azziz has been charged with submitting three names to the Board of Regents, and the Board will make the final determination. Submissions are being taken until the end of the month.
