GHSU students, faculty, and staff admitted free to athletic events

The move comes after an announcement by the Georgia Board of Regents that the two universities will consolidate in fall 2013.

School record for ASU’s athletic programs

During the 2010-11 year, a school-record eight of ASU’s athletic programs advanced to NCAA Regional play. The Jaguar men’s golf team captured its second straight NCAA Division I National Championship, while the men’s basketball program made its fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet Sixteen.

Shipman named Southeast Region Pre-season All-American

Augusta State’s Scott Shipman has been named a Southeast Region Preseason All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).

A junior right-hander from Waxhaw, N.C., Shipman earned first-team, All-Southeast Region honors as a sophomore in 2011 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. He tossed four complete games in 14 starts, posting an 8-3 record with a 1.80 ERA. He registered a 70-to-24 strikeout-to-walk ratio, while opponents hit just .230 against him. He had the most wins by a Jaguar starting pitcher since 2004.

In addition, junior righty Josh Barks was named a Player to Watch, and newcomer Dylan Wall was tabbed as a Newcomer to Watch by the ABCA.

In 18 appearances, Barks garnered a 2-3 record with 43 strikeouts and a 3.21 ERA in 42 innings pitched. A native of Sparks, Ga., and product of Cook (Ga.) High School, Barks also recorded one save and made four starts.

A junior righty from Jacksonville, Fla., and South Georgia College transfer, Wall logged 89 innings in 22 appearances (16 starts). He tallied a 7-4 record with 52 strikeouts and a 4.35 ERA last season for the Tigers.
