Augusta State’s College of Education will undergo a site visit Feb. 4-7 by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), the profession’s mechanism to help establish high quality teacher preparation.
“Every seven years NCATE evaluates a school’s professional programs; our year is Spring 2012,” said Paula Dohoney, interim dean of the College of Education. “April 2011, we submitted an Institutional Report, detailing aspects of our education professional preparation programs. The accreditation site visit is simply to confirm what was written in the report.”
The site visit team will consist of representatives from NCATE and the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. The team will meet with Augusta State faculty, staff, students, program graduates, and members of the Partner School Network.
The team will present the site visit’s unofficial results to President William Bloodworth, Jr., Carol Rychly, acting vice president for academic affairs, and Dohoney on Feb. 7.
“We are looking forward to this visit. We have worked diligently toward it for four years,” said Dohoney.
