TIAA-CREF rep will be on campus

Individual counseling sessions with Dean Yarbrough, TIAA-CREF individual consultant, will be Tuesday, Jan. 24, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Both sessions will be held in the Markert Conference Room in the Jaguar Student Activities Center. Yarbrough will be available discuss how you can achieve your financial goals by investing in financial solutions such as mutual funds, brokerage accounts, life insurance and tax deferred annuities.

Red Cross Blood Drive

Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to save a life by donating blood to the Red Cross on Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the JSAC Ballroom.

Faculty Meeting

The ASU Faculty Meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 2:30 p.m. in the JSAC Ballroom.

John C. Groves Senior Service Leadership Award 2012

Each year, the John C. Groves Senior Service Leadership Award is given to two seniors, one male and one female, who have made the most outstanding contribution of campus service and leadership to the Augusta State University community.  This award represents the highest service and leadership award at ASU and is given in honor of John Groves who gave 35 years of service and leadership to the university as Director of Student Activities.  Groves spent many hours meeting and talking with students as he encouraged student involvement in clubs and organizations in order to develop leadership skills.

Please nominate deserving students by sending an email to deanofstudents@aug.edu.  Students must be nominated by a faculty or staff member (and have at least a 2.5 GPA). The student must complete the nomination form in order to apply. For a copy of the nomination form, email the Dean of Students Office. The completed form as well as your email nomination must be returned by the January 31 deadline.  A committee will select the award recipients and the awards will be presented during Honors Convocation and also at the Student Services Leadership banquet. Retirement brunch for Rose Axton

In recognition of the retirement of Rose Axton, director of media services, a brunch will be held on Thursday, Feb. 2, from 9-11 a.m. in the JSAC Coffeehouse. Axton has served the ASU community for 20 years. For more information, call the Reese Library at 706-737-1744.

Award-winning ceramicist to give artist talk

Drawing on the Past, an exhibit featuring the art of award-winning ceramicist Ted Saupe, is on display in Augusta State’s Mary S. Byrd Gallery of Art from Thursday, Jan. 19, until Thursday, Feb. 9. Saupe will give an artist talk on Thursday, Feb. 2, at 3:30 p.m. in 170 University Hall, which will be followed by a reception at 5 p.m. in the gallery. For more information, call 706-667-4888.

AAMI interest meeting

A meeting will be held Thursday, Feb. 2, at 6 p.m. in 170 University Hall for African-American male high school graduating seniors interested in learning more about the program titled The Winning Game Plan.  African-American males are invited to apply to participate in a free four-week summer bridge program at Augusta State. Cell phones, charges, other items being collected

The University Police Department is collecting cell phones, chargers, etc. for Safe Homes. Safe Homes receives a new operational phone programmed for use by victims of domestic violence for each old cell phone. Other items being collected are toiletry items for Safe Homes and Rape Crisis (individual bottles of hand cleaner, body wash, soap, shampoo); eye glasses and cases for the Lions Club; and batteries. These items may be placed in the collection boxes located in the Public Safety Building. For more information, call public safety at 706-737-1401.
