Foley named acting AVP for Campus Development
Jeffrey Foley, former commanding general of the U.S. Army Signal Center and Fort Gordon, has been named acting assistant vice president for Campus Development, effective Dec. 1, 2010.
Foley assumes the responsibilities of Kathy Hamrick, special coordinator of Master Planning, who retired in December. He will coordinate the programming, design, and construction of the university’s new building projects, which include a new academic building, a recreation and wellness center, and expanded student housing on West Campus. He also will help oversee the acquiring of real estate and property and assist in the strategic planning efforts.
“It is Foley’s experience, strong leadership qualities, work ethic, and vigilant eye toward strategic initiatives that will make him a great asset in this position and to the university’s mission,” says Therese Rosier, vice president for Business Operations.
Throughout his 32-year military career, Foley held a variety of staff positions including director of Architecture, Operations, Networks, and Space at the Pentagon. While serving at Fort Gordon, he managed organizations at all levels including overseeing 25,000 military and civilian employees and a budget over $380 million. He also played an important role in creating closer relationships between Fort Gordon and the Augusta community by promoting military involvement with area schools, churches, cultural and sporting events, non-profits, and neighborhood associations.
Foley has received numerous awards including the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, and the Army Achievement Medal.
A Cincinnati, Ohio, native, he earned a bachelor’s degree from the United States Military Academy and obtained master’s degrees in computer systems from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology and in national security and strategic studies from the National Defense University.
His office is located in the basement of Payne Hall, and he may be reached at 706-729-2389 or at jwfoley@aug.edu.
