Cross Country
The Augusta State men’s cross country squad was picked to finish fifth in the Peach Belt Conference’s preseason poll, according to vote by the league’s nine head coaches. The Jaguars are in their first season under head coach Adam Ward after the reinstatement of the men’s cross country program last summer. The Jags will be competing for the first time since 2002.

The women’s cross country squad has been tabbed fourth in the NCAA Southeast Region’s preseason poll, according to a recent release from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Lady Jaguars, who were picked to finish second in the Peach Belt Conference’s preseason poll, are entering their seventh season under head coach Adam Ward. The Lady Jags return all but two letterwinners from last season’s squad that posted five top-five finishes, including a victory in their season opener.
Two meets are scheduled for September: Sept. 10 (Fri.) Dual meet (vs. Georgia College & State) in Milledgeville, Ga., at 4:30 p.m.; Sept. 25 (Sat.) at USCA Pacer Invitational in Aiken, S.C., at 8 a.m.

Men’s Golf
The National Champions will be heading to the White House on Sept. 13, along with other Division I champions, for a recognition ceremony with President Obama.

Then, the team competes in the 2010 Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational Sept. 17-19, at the Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Ill.  On Sept. 26-28, the team will play in the PING/Golfweek Preview at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.

Augusta State’s men’s golf squad was recently tabbed as one of 113 college golf programs among all NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA teams to earn All-Academic honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America. Off the course, ASU posted a collective 3.21 GPA in 2009-10 and was one of 64 Division I programs to receive the academic accolade.

Women’s Golf
The women’s team, led by head coach Kevin McPherson, will compete Sept. 11-12 at the Wolverine Invitational at the University of Michigan Golf Course, in Ann Arbor, Mich. On Sept. 26-27, they play in the University of Wisconsin’s Badger Invitational at the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wis.

Men’s and Women’s Tennis
Under head coach Michael McGrath, the team will compete Oct. 2-4 at Newman Tennis Center Invitational in Augusta at 8 a.m.

Volleyball
The Jaguars return four starters and eight letterwinners from their 2009 squad that racked up 22 victories—the second-most in school history—and registered the second-best turnaround in a single season in the 25-year history of the program. ASU, entering its second season under head coach Sharon Bonaventure, will kick off the 2010 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 3, on the road at the Anderson Tournament in Anderson, S.C.

Softball
Although the softball season doesn’t begin until spring semester, the Jaguars will take on a team of faculty and staff on Friday, Sept. 24, from 2-4 p.m. at Jaguar Field adjacent to Christenberry Field House. Communications professor Kathleen Trigg is lining up the faculty-staff team.
