Saundra Reinke, professor of public administration, has been named the director of the new Center for Public Service and Research, effective Aug. 1. The new center expands on the mission of the university’s Research Center.
“Dr. Reinke’s service to the university and the community has proven her ability to lead the center in a new direction. She is extremely capable, and I am certain that her efforts will enhance and expand our research center,” says Samuel Sullivan, vice president for academic affairs.
Reinke, a recipient of the Outstanding Teaching Award, is committed to the university, the local community, and academic research. In 2008, she was presented the Women of Excellence Award, an award given by the Girl Scouts to acknowledge female community leaders. She also received the Outstanding Article Award for her article in Public Integrity in 2006. A mentor, Reinke has seen many of her students’ work published and presented at regional conferences.
As director of the MPA program, she played an integral role in the program’s approval by the National Association of Schools of Public Administration, which is the most outstanding accreditation that a MPA program can receive. She is also the interim director of ASU’s Center for Immigration Studies.
As a retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Colonel, Reinke was instrumental in having the university join the Servicemembers Opportunity College, which allows ASU to be present at Fort Gordon. She also chairs the Fort Gordon Liaison Committee, which works to advance relationships between Fort Gordon and the university.
Prior to joining the ASU faculty in 1999, Reinke served as an instructor at Troy State University in Montgomery, Ala. She received her bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Texas-Arlington, master’s degree in management from Troy State University, and a doctoral degree in public administration from the University of Alabama.
Along with teaching, she serves as a deacon at the Church of Our Savior and has served on the state board for ministry.
