We are… will be the theme for this year’s A Day for Augusta State University annual fund and friend raising campaign. Katherine Sweeney, ’82 and ’99, director of admissions and registrar, and Stacy Tallent, ’91 and ’07, president of Health Center Credit Union, the new campus and community chairs, respectively.
The A Day campaign will kick-off on Tuesday, Aug. 10, at the fall convocation at 8:15 a.m., and a noon cook-out in the Grove. The campus campaign ends on Aug. 27.
Sweeney, a former president of the Alumni Association, is an active member of the ASU community. She has represented both the registrar and admissions offices as the A Day department leader for the past 11 years and has assisted in cooking for the A Day barbecue for four years. Sweeney serves on several campus committees and is a member of the university’s chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be chosen the campus chair for the 2010 A Day for Augusta State University campaign. I am especially excited about working with the community chair, Stacy Tallent. We plan to pull out all the stops to make this the best year ever for friend raising and fundraising for our alma mater,” says Sweeney.
Tallent, a member of the ASU Foundation Board of Trustees, is an active member of the Georgia Credit Union League who has served on various committees and its board of directors. Since 2003, he has served as the fundraising chair for the Credit Union Political Action Council. Tallent volunteers with the Children’s Miracle Network annual telethon, is a member of the Augusta Rotary Club, and is on the board of directors of the Marshall Family Y.
“It is an honor to serve as the community chair for the A Day for ASU campaign. We are all very fortunate to have such a magnificent institution located in the heart of our community,” says Tallent.
The community campaign will get underway Sept. 16, beginning with the President’s Club luncheon at the Augusta Country Club. The campaign culminates on Oct. 8 with a celebration and the annual alumni association barbecue.
Other important events of the A Day campaign include a Chamber Business After Hours at the Maxwell House on Sept. 16, the Jaguar Jaunt on Oct. 2, Health Fair on Oct. 6, Music Department Gala, Oct. 7, and Phi Kappa Phi Symposium on Oct. 8.
