Olajide Agunloye, professor in Augusta State’s Department of Educational Leadership, Counseling, and Special Education, has been selected for a Fulbright Specialist Grant award under the provisions of the Mutual Educational and Cultural Exchange Act of 1961 (as amended), the Fulbright Program.
Dr. Agunloye is being hosted at the University of Jos in Nigeria from June 24-August 4. As a Fulbright Specialist, he will conduct reflective sessions with university administrators and faculty committees on institutional and programmatic improvement and planning.
“I am very delighted to know that the Fulbright program selected me for such a prestigious award,” says Dr. Agunloye. “The Fulbright program and award provide a unique opportunity to see and experience education from an international perspective in an increasingly global world. The experience will be added to my continuing knowledge and understanding of educational issues from national and international perspectives to promote teaching and learning in education at Augusta State University and the United States in general.
Dr. Agunloye spent many years in research and teaching in the sciences in Nigeria. He continued his career in science research and education in the United Kingdom and the United States. He was as a broad-field science educator with the DeKalb County School System. After only a few years in this position, he was appointed as the district-level director of Science Curriculum and Instruction for the Fulton County School System.
Before joining Augusta State’s faculty in 2008, Dr. Agunloye taught at several institutions within the University System of Georgia including Georgia Perimeter College, Clayton State University, and the University of Georgia. He also served as a senior research scientist and head of division of crop protection at the International Horticultural Research Institute in Nigeria. He has served on various educational review panels, both locally and nationally.
Dr. Agunloye is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Georgia Educational Leadership Faculty Association, Professional Association of Georgia Educators, National Science Teachers Association, and the United Kingdom’s Association of Business Executives. Throughout his career, the accomplished teacher has authored and co-authored articles for several publications including the Georgia Education Researcher, Journal of Horticultural Science, and the Journal of Education Finance.
Dr. Agunloye obtained his bachelor and master’s degrees from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria. He received his educational specialist degree from the University of West Georgia and earned a doctoral degree from the University of Georgia.
