Quilt exhibition on display in the library
An exhibition of Log Cabin quilts will be on display on the second floor of Augusta State University’s Reese Library through Aug. 31. The display features six quilts by artist Glenda King that are of Log Cabin construction, an age-old quilting technique dating back to ancient Egypt that was made popular in the 1800s. According to Ms. King, each quilt was pieced by hand and machine using both hand dyed and commercial fabrics. In this exhibit, she says each quilt becomes progressively more complex illustrating the architectural evolution from simple structures to modern skyscrapers. The quilts in this series include Etymon, the inception in which the basic concept of variations on Log Cabin design first took form; Structural Portents, a style of work that describes the formality of architecture; and Confluence, a piece that illustrates the construction of futuristic structures.
