Amanda Boland, career advisor in the university’s Career Center, approaches life with a positive attitude. That attitude spills over into her research and reading interests in Positive Psychology and also affects her interaction with ASU students.
“When I’m talking to students who are trying to figure out what they want to major in or what career to go into, I discuss in detail their skills, interests, values, and personality. We know from research that if we can find a career that fulfills all of these, the employee will be happier,” she says. “I enjoy helping students find ways to be happy in their career quests.”
As a career advisor, Ms. Boland helps students stay on track with their career goals and alerts students to workshops and community outreach activities so they can begin to network. She assists students majoring in the natural and applied sciences and also works with students who have not decided on a major.
She enjoys the variety that her job involves–of meeting with students one-on-one, going to a classroom for a presentation, or conducting a workshop for the students . “I’m extremely extroverted, so this environment suits me well. I also love working with incredible and amazing women that challenge and motivate me daily,” she says.
Ms. Boland’s positive attitude helps this active mother of three maintain balance in her life which she fills with work, cooking, hosting dinner parties, and volunteering at her children’s schools.
She received her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Campbell University and her master’s degree in psychology from Augusta State.
