Jaguars head to NCAA golf championship tournament

by Joey Warren

The men’s golf team, ranked fifth in the nation, qualified for the NCAA National Championship, which will be held June 1-6 at the Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn.

The Jags earned the bid after taking second in the NCAA Regional in San Diego, Calif., in late May. The regional was won by the nation’s top-ranked team, Oregon, with California, Tennessee, and UNLV tying for third place. The men’s golf team has played in 15 regional tournaments, and this will be the 11th trip to the national championship.

The team will travel to Chattanooga in its new state-of-the-art, customized van. Ed Luckey, general manager of Mercedes-Benz of Augusta, presented ASU Director of Golf and Head Men’s Golf Coach Josh Gregory with the keys to the 2010 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter at the  J. Fleming Norvell Golf House in a ceremony on May 14.
