ASU’s new Financial Aid Director
Cynthia Parks has been named the director of Financial Aid, effective May 1, 2010. She assumes the new role after the retirement of former director Willene Holmes who served the university for more than 20 years.
“We are excited to have Ms. Parks join Augusta State as the new financial aid director. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this position,” says Joyce Jones, vice president for student services and dean of students.
Ms. Parks, who has 13 years of financial aid experience, currently serves as the director of Financial Aid at East Georgia College in Swainsboro. She has also held the positions of associate director, interim director, assistant director, and financial aid counselor in the financial aid office at the Medical College of Georgia.
While at MCG, Ms. Parks served as chair of the Tuition Classification Policy Review Committee and the Residency Review Committee. She has conducted training sessions on various topics including teamwork, communication skills, and customer service.
She is also active in both her community and profession. Ms. Parks is a recipient of the Girl Scout Outstanding Leader Award, the 4-H Volunteer Certificate of Appreciation, and the Army Community Service Scroll of Appreciation. She is a member of the Georgia, Southern, and National Associations of Student Financial Aid Administrators.
A native of Augusta, Ms. Parks is a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and master’s degree in higher education administration from Georgia Southern University.
She is the daughter of Melvin and Magnolia Washington.
