Staff Profile- Susan Ennis

By Jeannen Hobbs, contributing writer

“ASU is truly a family affair for me,” says Susan Ennis, loan specialist in the business office. Her mother, Dagmar Howell, retired from ASU’s payroll office; her daughter, Anna Connolly, teaches classes part-time as requested by the College of Education; and her son-in-law, Graeme Connolly, is an assistant professor of kinesiology in the College of Education. Looking around her office, her love of family is reflected in the many photographs of her daughters, grandchildren, and other relatives.

Ms. Ennis has worked at Augusta State for 12 years. When she learned of the job opening here, she decided to apply, ending a 17-year career as a dental assistant. She says she had no apprehension whatsoever. “The transition to working at ASU was easy because the staff was nice, and I was familiar with the campus,” she says.

Her daily activities include balancing HOPE funds, Pell awards, and handling aspects of the Emergency and Perkins loans. She also handles delinquent bills for certain loan applications. Aside from the main responsibilities of her job, she also plans many of the special events that go on in the business office, such as retirement parties and office luncheons.

In her spare time, she enjoys scrapbooking, watching reality TV, and spending time with her grandchildren. The last family vacation was a cruise to the Bahamas. When she is not soaking up the sun with her family or catching the next episode of American Idol, she volunteers as a nursery attendant in her church. With so much going, it may seem quite hard to find time to think about future plans. However, she has made time to do just that.

Ms. Ennis’ future plans are to retire in five years. After retirement, she plans on spending more time with her family and volunteering in the community.
