ASU men’s basketball ranked No. 3 in nation after PBC win
The Augusta State men’s basketball squad was ranked third in the national rankings when the 13th NABC/Coaches Poll was released Feb. 23. ASU’s 77-60 victory over the Francis Marion Patriots in Florence, S.C., on Feb. 20 clinched the Jags’ second straight Peach Belt Conference Championship—their third PBC title in the last four seasons—and jumped the Jags into the number three spot.
Augusta State also strengthened its grasp on the top spot in the NCAA Southeast Region, according to the fifth region poll of the 2009-10 regular season. The Jaguars are one of five Peach Belt Conference schools to appear in the regional rankings, joining No. 3 Georgia College & State, No. 8 Francis Marion, No. 9 Montevallo and No. 10 USC Aiken. The top eight teams in the final Southeast Region poll of the regular season will earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
