Eddie Howard, director of Student Activities, has been named the Outstanding State Division Leader for 2009-10 by the American College Personnel Association.
Mr. Howard has held a number of leadership positions within the organization since 2005 including current service as the immediate past president of the organization for student affairs professionals. As the organization’s president in 2008-09, he was faced with the challenges of declining membership, economic conditions that limited or prevented travel, and limited professional development opportunities. It was because of his success in dealing with these challenges that earned him the nomination for this award, says Dr. Mike Fulford, GCPA Past-President. “As we look back on the history of our association and the history of our profession in Georgia, we will look at Eddie Howard’s leadership as a turning point. I personally thank Eddie for giving of himself so that others could find their place in GCPA and in our profession,” says Dr. Fulford.
A former director of student activities at Georgia College and State University, Mr. Howard joined Augusta State in 2004. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. as well as the American College Personnel Association, the National Association of Campus Activities, the Association of Fraternity Advisors, and other professional organizations.
He has a bachelor’s degree in fine arts-theater arts from Valdosta State University and a master’s degree in education from the University of Georgia.
