Employer and Educator Expo

With the state’s unemployment rate now over 10 percent, Augusta State students and alumni will find extra help in finding careers through the annual Educator and Employer Expos, which the Career Center is hosting Thursday, Feb. 18, and Friday, Feb. 19, respectively, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Christenberry Field House.

Julie Goley, director of the Career Center, says that the expos give students and alumni a “homefield advantage” to showcase their skills and abilities in a very tough and competitive job market. “The number one reason our employers come here is because they have a vested interest in wanting to successfully recruit our students and graduates.  That’s why it is so important that our students show up prepared and be fully engaged in the process,” she adds.

At the Educator Expo on Thursday, Feb. 18, representatives from over 15 school systems from throughout the states of Georgia and South Carolina will be available to meet with prospective educators “Our Educator Expo is a partnership with TeachGeorgia.org, and it helps to bring hundreds of qualified educators to the Augusta area each year,” says Ms. Goley.

On Friday, Feb. 19, representatives from Wachovia, Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center, Doctors Hospital, and Savannah River Nuclear Solutions will be among the more than 20 companies and organizations present at the Employer Expo.

Ms. Goley offers advice to potential candidates for employment: “They should present themselves professionally, confidently, and be very clear about what their strengths are in order to make a quick and solid first impression.”
