Internationally renowned economist and expert on sustainable global development Michael von Hauff will present a program at Augusta State University Monday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. in 126 Allgood Hall.  A professor at the Techniical Universitat of Kaiserlautern, Dr. von Hauff will discuss  Sustainable Development: The New Paradigm for Economics in the Twenty-first Century.

In 2009, Dr. Hauff received the German Environmentalist Award, an annual award that recognizes individuals and companies for commitment to econological and social responsibility. Dr. von Hauff’s research explores a sustainable development not only in Germany but other nations in the world. He serves on the editorial boards of several international journals such as The Progress in Industrial Ecology and International Quarterly for Asian Studies.

Dr. Janet Sandarg, professor in ASU’s Department of English and Foreign Language, says Dr. von Hauff’s presentation is very timely and describes how the economic welfare plays a role in the preservation of the environment.  “As our society continues to go green, Dr. von Hauff’s research has a way of opening our eyes to seeing the importance of protecting the needs of humans and the environment for future generations,” says Dr. Sandarg.

Dr. von Hauff earned a master’s degree in Economic Science from the Universities of Konstanz, Stuttgart.  He earned a doctoral degree in Economic Science from the University of Stuttgart, and he received a Habilitation from the Technical University of Kaiserslautern.
