Jaguars move up again in national poll
Augusta State moved up to No. 3 in the NABC/Coaches’ Poll of the 2009-10 season. The Jaguars, who debuted at No. 6 in the first regular-season poll, are off to an 8-0 start after an 82-62  win over Clayton State Tuesday night. The university is the only Georgia team to appear in the top 15 teams with the ranking, ASU has now appeared in the top 25 for a school-record 40 consecutive weeks, dating back to the 2006-07 campaign. The Jaguars have been ranked among the nation’s top 10 in 19 of the last 20 polls, and reached the top five for the 10th time under head coach Dip Metress. ASU hosts Emmanuel on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.

ASU’s Howard named All-American
Augusta State’s Jessica Howard has been named to the 2009 Daktronics Volleyball All-America Team. With the selection, Ms. Howard becomes the first player in Jaguar volleyball history to earn All-America honors and the first Peach Belt Conference student-athlete to be named to the Daktronics-sponsored squad since 2004. Ms. Howard led the Jaguars to the second-best season in school history (22-12) and to the highest league finish (third place) since 1995. The All-American Team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., based on Brookings, South Dakota.

Jags close out fall at No. 11
The Augusta State men’s golf squad earned its third top-20 national ranking recently when the Jaguars landed at No. 11 in the final Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches’ Poll of the fall season. The Jaguars, who posted four top-six finishes and took fourth or better in each of their last three events, were ranked No. 9 by both Golfweek magazine and by Golfstat.
