The New York-based Aquila Theatre Company will explore the impact of severe eco-issues on a small town and the consequences to one man for uncovering the truth in a production of Henrik Ibsen’s classic, An Enemy of the People. The single performance in Augusta will be presented on Thursday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. in Augusta State’s Maxwell Theatre.
This influential play, by one of the most important playwrights of all time, has generated many stage and film adaptations including Arthur Miller’s 1950 adaptation by the same title. Aquila asks these timeless questions: When is it right to speak up? Does the truth have a price? Would you risk everything for the truth?
Aquila Theatre has been called by one newspaper “one of the most inventive and daring theatre companies in the country” and by another “a classically trained, modernly hip troupe.” The presentation at Augusta State is being sponsored by the office of Student Activities as part of the annual Lyceum Program. Admission is free with a valid JagCard for faculty, staff, and students. General admission is $15. For more information, call 706-667-4100.
