Business Office reorganization
The Business Office has reorganized its office staff to provide a high level of ongoing support to the campus. Corrina Warner will be promoted to the position of Director of Financial Services and Controller, effective April 1, 2010. Ms. Warner will be replacing Angela Prettelt, assistant vice president and controller, who has announced her plans to retire.

The student accounts and the accounts receivable teams will be combined under the direction of Beth Schwenzfeier, who is promoted, effective immediately, to the new position of Student Accounts and Accounts Receivable Manager. Additionally, the search process for an assistant controller will soon begin. In addition to Ms. Prettelt’s retirement, Vera Boyll, assistant controller, and Barbara Stewart, accounts receivable manager, also recently retired after many years of service to ASU.

James Kirkland, Carpenter I, has been a member of the Augusta State family since June 1995. Mr. Kirkland is responsible for the construction of special order bookshelves, counters, and other specialty furniture. The Appling resident is married to Mary Edith and they have two children, Forest 13, and Hannah 11. In his spare time, he enjoys hunting and fishing with his children. Mr. Kirkland was chosen for the award from more than 90 Physical Plant employees.

Faculty receive travel grants
Four faculty members received travel grants from Augusta State’s Center for Teaching and Learning to attend teaching conferences in Georgia. Pam Gray, nursing, and Buffie Schmidt, Hull College of Business, will attend the 17th Georgia Conference on College and University Teaching in Kennesaw in February. Pamela Hayward, communications and professional writing, and Jeanette Meriwether, nursing, will attend the SoTL Commons conference in Statesboro in March.

“Each of these individuals wrote a convincing essay about how attendance at the conference will contribute to their professional development. In each case, it seems clear to me that their attendance will clearly benefit ASU student learning,” says Deborah Richardson, psychology.
