Taking care of our own

Augusta State came together as a campus community to Take Care of Our Own, showing that the theme of the A Day for ASU campus campaign was more than a tagline as the fundraising goal of $135,000 was exceeded by more than $12,000. The successful campus campaign was led by faculty members Drs. Hubert van Tuyll, chair of the Department of History, Anthropology, and Philosophy, and Debra van Tuyll, professor of communications.

“We are so proud of this campus! Our final A-Day on-campus total is over $147,363—significantly more than our $135,000 goal. You all really do know how to take care of your own! Thank you, thank you, thank you,” Dr. Debra van Tuyll says in a campus email.

Thirty-seven departments gave at the 100 percent level: Academic Advisement Center; Admissions/Registrar; Bookstore; Budget Office; Business Office; Business Operations; Career Center; Central Services; Chemistry and Physics, College of Education-Dean’s Office; Counseling Center; Development and Alumni Relations, Dean of Students/Vice President for Student Services; Educational Leadership, Counseling, and Special Education; History, Anthropology, and Philosophy; Hull College of Business; Human Resources; Information Technology Services; Institutional Research;  Kinesiology and Health Science; Media Services; Military Science; Music; Nursing; Psychology; Physical Plant; President’s Office; Projects Office; Public Relations and Publications; Public Safety; Purchasing; Radio Station; Reese Library; Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Social Work; Student Activities; Teacher Education; and Testing and Disability Services.
As the campus campaign draws to a close, the community campaign will kick off on Tuesday, Sept. 15, with the annual President’s Club Luncheon, an invitation-only event to be held at the Augusta Country Club. The community campaign will be led by John Bell, ’69, attorney with the Law Office of Bell and Brigham. Mr. Bell is a trustee of the ASU Foundation and has served as its chair.

The overall A Day campaign goal is $535,000, and its success will be celebrated Oct. 9 with a barbecue sponsored by the Alumni Association. For more information, contact the Office of Development and Alumni Relations at 706-737-1759.
