New and returning students for fall semester at ASU will find the first week charged with excitement, fun, food, and games. Beginning Monday, Aug. 17, the annual Week of Welcome will kick-off with What’s the Scoop? from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Jaguar Student Activities Center Breezeway with students making ice cream sundaes and learning about student and campus organizations. The week will culminate with its annual day of service at the Augusta Canal on Saturday, Aug. 22, as ASU students assist in the canal cleanup. Other student events include:
Aug. 18
Recess and Cookout. 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Flag Pole/Sports Field. Students will get the chance to meet ASU’s athletic coaches and participate in fun outdoor games.
Aug. 19
Buffalo Bingo and Wing Special. Noon-2 p.m., D. Douglas Barnard, Jr., Amphitheatre. ASU’s resident cowboy, Professor Michael Searles, will again be the bingo caller for this game that includes buffalo wings and prizes.
Aug. 20
ASU’s Next Top Model. Noon-1 p.m., JSAC Breezeway. Faculty, staff, and students will model the latest in collegiate fashions as Joyce Jones, vice president of student services and dean of students, serves as emcee.
Lip Sync Contest. 1-2 p.m., JSAC Breezeway. Students will showcase their talents as they lip-sync to the hits.
Guest speaker, Merrill Norton. 7-8:30 p.m., JSAC Ballroom. Dr. Norton will present information about the effects of alcohol on the brain.
Aug. 21
Movie Outing. 8 p.m., Regal Cinemas. A $2 deposit is required.
