Patti Peabody says that she has been to more Augusta State basketball games than anybody, and she is willing to challenge anyone who disputes her claim.
“My grandfather took me to my first Augusta College basketball game when I was five years old,” she says. “He was a huge fan of the Jags.”
So it’s no surprise that Ms. Peabody is a fan too. Over the years, she has been to more games than she can count and has collected Jaguar memorabilia such as team photographs, statistics books, and player biographies.
Her exposure to Augusta State at such an early age influenced her decision to apply to the university. In 1981, Ms. Peabody enrolled as a double major in political science and sociology, but it wasn’t until she got involved in the Student Government Association that her passion for the university evolved.
“I was the treasurer of SGA, and then I decided to run for president,” says Ms. Peabody. “In 1986, I became the first elected female president of the SGA in the history of Augusta College.”
As the SGA president, Ms. Peabody was given the opportunity to help make important decisions on campus.
“The year that I was SGA president, President Christenberry was retiring, so I was put on the search committee to help find the next president of the university,” says Ms. Peabody. “I was also on the search committee to help find the next Vice President for Student Affairs.”
After graduating in 1987, Ms. Peabody began looking for a job. In 1988, a position became available in ASU’s Admissions Office, and she has been working as an admissions recruiter for the last 20 years.
Ms. Peabody enjoys her job because it allows her to share her passion for Augusta State with potential students.
“As the admissions recruiter, I visit local high schools and college fairs around Georgia and South Carolina and let people know ASU’s admissions requirements and tell them about what ASU has to offer,” she says.
Much of the enjoyment from her job comes from meeting new people, but she admits that she takes pleasure in attending graduation because she enjoys seeing students graduate whom she helped get admitted into college.
Ms. Peabody earned her master’s of education in administration and supervision from Augusta State University in 1996.
