Whiting Takes on Institutional Effectiveness Role

Dr. Raymond Whiting, who has been serving as faculty assistant to the president and accreditation liaison, will serve as faculty assistant to the president and assistant vice president for institutional effectiveness beginning on July 1, 2009.

In his role as assistant vice president for institutional effectiveness, Dr. Whiting will report to Dr. Samuel Sullivan, vice president for academic affairs. “In this new role, Dr. Whiting will provide the leadership to coordinate the university’s efforts toward reaffirmation of its accreditation from the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges,” says Dr. Sullivan.  Dr. Whiting will continue to serve as accreditation liaison with the Commission on Colleges.

Dr. Whiting is the recipient of the university’s 1995 Outstanding Faculty Member Award, the 2003 Louis K. Bell Research Award, and the 2005 Richard S. Wallace Distinguished Award and was a Governor’s Teaching Fellow in 1998-99. Prior to joining Augusta State in 1990, he taught at Syracuse University, Cazenovia College, and Ithaca College, all in New York, where he also was a practicing attorney for several years.

He is the immediate past president of the university’s chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, a past member of the board of directors of St. Stephen’s Ministry of Augusta, Inc., and a member of the Greater Augusta Citizens Advocacy Board as well as a past member of the Anti-Racism Commission.

He is a frequent commentator and presenter on the topics of mediation and right to life.  He is the author of a 2000 book, A Natural Right to Die: Twenty-three Centuries of Debate.

A native of Clinton, N.Y., Dr. Whiting earned Bachelor of Arts, Juris Doctorate, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Syracuse University.
