Vickey Hanson, Jaguar Student Activities Center operations coordinator, enjoys the variety that comes throughout her work day.
“One thing that I love about my job is that every day is different. I never say to anyone that my job is boring or uneventful. There is always something going on that needs my attention,” says Ms. Hanson. “I believe the number one thing that I do in my job is serve. I love working with faculty, staff, and students to come up with solutions to problems or issues regarding their events. I also love that it is run by students, and that this building serves as a living laboratory for them.”
As the operations coordinator, Ms. Hanson is also responsible for the JSAC building as well as supervising 30 student employees that work for the Office of Student Activities. “I am responsible for satisfying every faculty, student, and staff who has an event that takes place in the building,” she says.
A Buffalo, N.Y., native, Ms. Hanson had quite the culture shock when she arrived in the South. She recalls the day that she came on campus to interview for her current position.
“I remember coming in for my interview and someone from Physical Plant waved at me. Then, as I was walking around the campus, everyone I met smiled and said ‘hi.’ I wasn’t used to that up North.”
Since her arrival more than two years ago, Ms. Hanson has grown accustomed to the warm and friendly atmosphere of living in the South and being a part of the ASU family. However, she says she still misses the original Buffalo-style chicken wings.
“I like working in the Student Activities Office. This office touches so many lives on and off this campus, and I’m blessed to be a part of it,” she says.
