Bonaventure named to ASU post

Sharon Bonaventure has been named the head coach of the Augusta State Volleyball program. The announcement naming the former Franklin Pierce University coach to the position was made by ASU Director of Athletics Clint Bryant.

Coach Bonaventure becomes the eighth head coach in the Jaguar Volleyball program’s 24-year history. According to the announcement, she has enjoyed success at every stop in her coaching career, compiling a 232-135 career record in 12 years during three different stints as a head coach. She has recorded five 20-win seasons.

“After an intensive national search, we’re very fortunate to be able to attract a volleyball coach the caliber of Coach Bonaventure,” Mr. Bryant said. “She has experience not only in coaching, but in athletic administration as well. We look forward to her moving our volleyball program to the next level.”

In three seasons at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire, Coach Bonaventure posted three 18-win seasons and led the Ravens to their highest Northeast-10 Conference finish in school history. Prior to Franklin Pierce, she served five seasons as head coach at West Chester University, where she was twice named PSAC Coach of the Year, and four years at the University of Maine at Machias.

She has worked in varying capacities with the United States Olympic Committee in Colorado Springs, Colo.; the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs; Colorado College; and The Colorado Springs School.

Coach Bonaventure earned her master’s degree in sports administration from the University of Northern Colorado in 1995 and her undergraduate degree in exercise and sport sciences from the University of Florida in 1993. She also attended Winthrop University for two years, where she was a member of the Eagles volleyball program as a freshman and sophomore, before transferring to Florida.
