Dr. George A. Christenberry, president of Augusta College from 1970-1986, passed away on April 21. A Celebration of Life service was held on Saturday, April 25, at First Baptist Church of Augusta.

Joiner named Physical Plant Employee of First Quarter
Ricky Joiner, automotive shop foreman, has been named the Physical Plant Employee of the First Quarter. Prior to joining the automotive shop, he worked in the HVAC shop for five years.
“Mr. Joiner does an excellent job of running the automotive shop. He treats all of his customers with the greatest respect,” says Alan Whaley, HVAC foreman.
In his spare time, Mr. Joiner enjoys fishing and working on projects in his shop at home.
New parking lot opened
An additional 130 parking spaces have been added to the lot located next to the Jaguar Student Activities Center. The construction, which began in January, includes eight motorcycle spaces. “The eight spaces were constructed specifically to eliminate the likelihood of a motorcycle kickstand settling into the asphalt,” says Fred Ricketson, campus architect.
International Friendship Program for ASU students

Clean-up day held at adopted school
A clean-up day was held at Augusta State’s adopted school, Lamar Elementary, and participating from ASU were Judy Waters, Dalton Dunson, Max Brown, and Judy Cooke along with ASU students Jennifer Ross, NaKesha Green, Whitney Lions, Gishelle Raghunanan, Jerry Oliver, Holly Veal, Brandie Woodard, and Valencia Macon.
Commissioning Ceremony
ROTC cadets who have completed their degree requirements for graduation at Augusta State University will receive their commissions into the United States Army during the Commissioning Ceremony being held on Friday, May 8, at 1 p.m. in ASU’s Jaguar Student Activities Center Ballroom.
Nursing Pinning Ceremony
Nursing students completing their degree requirements this spring at Augusta State are expected to receive their pins at the annual pinning ceremony being held by Department of Nursing on Friday, May 8, at 7 p.m. in the Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre. The pinning ceremony will end with the traditional recitation of the Nightingale Pledge—an oath vowing that they will dedicate themselves to the nursing profession. Ms. Wanda Bell, assistant to the chair for Nursing Retention, will be the speaker.
