The university’s chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi will hold a ceremony and reception for new initiates on Friday, March 20, at 7 p.m. in the Jaguar Student Activities Center Ballroom. Fifty-nine students were nominated for membership as well as six faculty members and two alumni. Faculty inductees will include Ted B. Atkinson, assistant professor of English and assistant chair of the Department of English and Foreign Languages; Jean D. Balogh, assistant professor of nursing; J. Michelle Benedict, assistant professor of mathematics; James M. Benedict, professor of mathematics; William N. Nelson, director of Reese Library; and William A. Reese, professor of sociology. Alumni inductees include Chad E. Stephens, assistant professor of chemistry; and Phillip R. Wahl, president, First Citizens.
John Bell, a past president of the university’s Foundation and a former SGA president at Augusta College, will be the featured speaker. Mr. Bell was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi as a student at the University of Georgia Law School.
