ASU’s Department of Music obtains re-accreditation

The Department of Music at Augusta State has received reaccreditation from the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). Fully accredited by NASM since 1970, the department recently underwent its 10 year re-accreditation review.

“Accreditation by NASM shows our students and the general public that our department has demonstrated that we meet or exceed all standards set by NASM for our three music degrees, the Bachelor of Arts in Music, Bachelor of Music in Performance, and the Bachelor of Music in Music Education,” says Dr. Angela Morgan, chair and professor in the Department of Music.

The music department has undergone several substantive changes over the past few years. “Most notable of our improvements have been the renovation of the Fine Arts Building, the hiring of a part-time staff accompanist, re-location of all musical scores and recordings to the Media Center, and a restructuring of our class piano sequence to better meet NASM standards,” says Dr. Morgan.

In fall 2006, the Department of Fine Arts was restructured, separating the art and music programs into two departments.  The Department of Music remained in the Fine Arts Building, and the art department moved to Washington Hall.

“The Music Department has accomplished all of our changes/improvements through the help of others on campus, namely, Dr. Robert Parham, Ms. Therese Rosier, Ms. Camilla Reid, Dr. William Nelson, and Ms. Rose Axton,” says Dr. Morgan.
