The Christenberry Field House is one of the busiest places at the university, and all of its events are coordinated by one person—Jason Gribek. Reserving the building is the easy part, says the events coordinator. As a member of the Physical Plant staff, he is also responsible for ensuring the building’s upkeep and maintenance. He doesn’t have a standard 8-hour work shift as many university employees, since, typically, many of the events at the Field House take place in the evening and on week-ends. But, it’s all part of the job, he says.
Mr. Gribek is no stranger to organizing events. As a former chair of the university’s Staff Council, he has helped plan the annual Holiday Luncheon and other faculty and staff related events. “I served on Staff Council from 2001 to 2006, and I really enjoyed my time on the council,” he says, adding, “Michelle DeLoach, the current chair, is doing a great job.”
He is also a member of various other committees, such as the Homecoming, Commencement, and Property Utilization committees, as well as the steering committee for the annual Faculty and Staff Appreciation Week. “I enjoy serving on the committees, and I particularly like coordinating the Trivia Contest during the Faculty-Staff Appreciation Week,” says Mr. Gribek.
Mr. Gribek also enjoys spending time with his wife and son. They take an annual summer vacation to Myrtle Beach where he says they like to hang out at the beach, go shopping, and spend time relaxing. Mr. Gribek also tries to squeeze in a game of golf.
Besides golf, he also plays soccer. Right now I am playing more golf because I don’t get hurt as much, he says jokingly. “I enjoy both,” says Mr. Gribek. His son is also a sports fan and plays travel soccer. “My son and I both like Central Michigan’s football team and Red Wing hockey as well as University of Michigan Athletics.” he adds.
Mr. Gribek received a bachelor’s degree in commercial recreation and facility management from Central Michigan University and a master’s degree in education from Augusta State.
