ASU hosts career expos

In February, Augusta State University’s Career Center will host two career expos. The first, an Educator Expo, will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19. It is designed for those who wish to pursue a career in education. Representatives from Georgia and South Carolina school systems will be available to meet with prospective educators.

The second, an Employer Expo, is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 20, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. It will feature more than 50 employers, ranging from local television stations and medical centers to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The expo is open to ASU students and alumni.

With the rise in our nation’s unemployment rate, Ms. Julie Goley, director of Augusta State’s Career Center, says attending career expos are always great opportunities for job seekers to have a one-on-one with potential employers.

“Being able to meet your potential employer is always a plus,” says Ms. Goley. “With the state of our economy and the increasing use of online technology for a job search, it is rare to get the opportunity to meet employers face-to-face in order to make a good impression. So it is best to take advantage of every opportunity you have to extend your network and demonstrate your qualifications.”

Both events will be held at the Christenberry Field House on Wrightsboro Road. Attendees for both expos are encouraged to dress professionally and bring copies of their resumes. For a current list of employers planning to participate, check the Career Center’s website at www.aug.edu/career_center.
