The 15th annual Tri-College Celebration honoring the memory and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., will be held on Friday, Jan. 16, at noon in the Natalie and Lansing B. Lee, Jr., Auditorium at the Medical College of Georgia. Free shuttle service will be provided to ASU faculty, staff, and students, with pick-up times at 11:15 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. in front of University Hall. Auditorium seating will be based on first come, first served.
Mr. Jim Lucas, an advocate of Dr. King’s philosophy of nonviolent civil action to effect social change, will perform a dramatic one-man show titled Reflections, which is based on the words and life experiences of the slain Civil Rights leader.
Mr. Lucas has been recognized across the nation for his dramatic recitations and interpretive readings depicting the life and times of Dr. King. His moving performance before the Diplomatic Corp and an international television audience prompted former U.S. President Bill Clinton to call him, “The most authentic and exhilarating King I have ever seen.”
He has been the guest speaker for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, The Mormon Temple, and National Baptist Conventions. He has also performed at over 100 colleges and universities as well as throughout Germany, Japan, and South Korea. His movie and television credits include appearances in Head of State, Ladder 49, National Treasures I and II, Something the Lord Made, The West Wing, The District, 24, and The Wire. Mr. Lucas is currently co-starring in the critically acclaimed play, THE MEETING, a powerful drama about the lives, philosophies, and times of The Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., and Malcolm X.
His resemblance to and interpretation of Dr. King has been called remarkable, awe inspiring, uncanny, and soulful.
