Dr. Tim L. Sadenwasser, associate professor of English, has been named director of the university’s Honors Program, effective Aug. 1, 2009. He will replace Dr. Jim Garvey, who will be retiring.
“I appreciate Dr. Sadenwasser accepting this challenge, and I know from the strong recommendation he received from the members of the Honors Committee that the program will prosper under his leadership,” says Dr. Samuel Sullivan, ASU’s vice president for academic affairs.
As the program’s fourth director, he will be responsible for the daily operations of the Honors Program, which was developed in 1996 to challenge students intellectually, improve their communication skills, and increase their self-confidence.
The ASU Honors Program is affiliated with the National Collegiate Honors Council, the Southern Regional Honors Council, and the Georgia Honors Council.
“I am thrilled about getting this job. I’ve been working with our Honors students for five years—both as an English 1113 instructor and as a member of thesis committees—and I love it,” says Dr. Sadenwasser.
He has served as a member of the Honors Committee since spring 2003 and has been teaching in the program since fall 2004. He joined Augusta State as a faculty member in 2002.
Dr. Sadenwasser’s research interests include British poetry from the Renaissance to the present, 19th and 20th century American poetry, 19th century British fiction, and American realist and naturalist fiction.
He has been published in Victorian Poetry and in commentaries, explanatory notes, and bibliographies on poems and biographies of poets for the Columbia Grainger’s World of Poetry CD-ROM.
Dr. Sadenwasser received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and master and doctoral degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
As a graduate teaching assistant, he was awarded the Laurence Avery Award for Outstanding Teaching in Literature and was the English Department nominee for the Tanner Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching by a Graduate Teaching Assistant.
