“I am really surprised, and I had no idea,” is what Alexander Hines said after being chosen for the second time as the Physical Plant Employee of the Year. In 2004, he was named the Physical Plant Employee of the Year as well as the Physical Plant Employee of the Third Quarter. His selection for this year’s honor follows him being named the Employee of the Second Quarter.
“This is a proud moment for me,” he says, adding, “I am happy to have won the Employee of the Yea
r and Quarter all in the same year. This shows that hard work really pays off.”
Mr. Hines has been a groundskeeper for Augusta State for the past 13 years. Recommended by his peers, he was selected for the award based on his job knowledge, dependability, positive attitude, quality of work, initiative, safety record, and interaction with others.
“His great work performance and stellar attendance were a few reasons why he was selected,” says Max Brown, supervisor for grounds maintenance at ASU.
Mr. Hines says he loves being outside more than anything, which is why he loves his job so much. On a daily basis, his responsibilities include litter control, waste management, and pressure washing. In fact, he often participates in other grounds assignments and often volunteers for overtime events.
