January 2009 will mark the premiere of JagTV—an on-campus effort to bring news and entertainment to TV viewers in the Jaguar Student Activities Center and University Village. Programming is in the development stage but is expected to include news broadcasts, sports chats, faculty interviews, professional and student films, tutorials, health and exercise segments, and more. This Student Activities project is being produced in collaboration with the Office of Public Relations and Publications, Information Technology Services, and the Department of Communications and Professional Writing.
Volunteers for this new effort are being sought—particularly faculty and staff with on-camera or video experience. Previous experience is not a prerequisite, however. Anyone with an interest is encouraged to be involved.
“The shows will air on Channel 90, and initially, only on televisions in the JSAC and University Village,” says Eddie Howard, director of student activities. “We really want to involve students as well as faculty and staff, and as more people become involved, we will be expanding the programming. We’re beginning with only a couple of hours of programming a day.”
Danielle Harris, media relations specialist in the Office of Public Relations, is taking the lead on programming. An alumna of ASU’s communications program, she previously worked with NBC Augusta. “We are really counting on our faculty to be involved. Many have hosted their own shows, either on radio or TV, and others may have special interests that they would be willing to share in tutorials or interviews. This is a campus effort, and we need the campus to be involved for it to become successful,” she says. “We will also be issuing a call for students, so if you know of talented students who might be interested, please have them contact a communications professor, Mr. Howard, or me,” she adds.
