“Do not complain about it, just do it” is the motto of Mary Ann Williams, the 2008 Physical Plant Employee of the third quarter. Ms. Williams says she is honored to have received this recognition and is very thankful to have the strength and understanding to do her job.
“I love the atmosphere of the campus,” says Ms. Williams. “I look forward to coming to work and seeing the faculty, staff, and students. Even though I know I am working, it feels more like I am out with friends,” she says.
Each quarter, employees in the Physical Plant submit nominations for the honor, which are then reviewed by the supervisor of each division. Nominations are compiled and the nominees are considered by all supervisors on the basis of their quality of work, job knowledge, attendance, dependability, cooperation, initiative, quality of personality, fellowship, and attitude. The winner is then selected by them as the Physical Plant Employee of the Quarter.
“It is a pleasure to have Mary working with us,” says Ms. Brenda Murray, building services supervisor. “She is such a hard worker and a sweet person to have on our staff.”
Ms. Williams has been working at the university since May 2007. She is the custodian for Washington Hall and the Guard House Museum. In her spare time, she likes reading and window shopping.
