A Day exceeds goal

Augusta State faculty, staff, students, and the community pushed the annual A Day for ASU campaign over the top by raising a combined total of  $538,700. The success was celebrated Oct. 10 at the annual alumni barbecue, which was moved from the campus quad to the Christenberry Field House due to inclement weather. Spirits were not dampened, however, as the total was announced, volunteers were thanked, and The Good Times Band entertained guests.

Mr. Phil Wahl, chair of the community drive and the senior vice president for CSRA Community Banking at Wachovia, says that with the current economic crisis, exceeding the goal speaks well of the community and campus. “Seeing the community and the ASU staff, faculty, and students accomplish the goal in this trying economy shows the impact as well as the appreciation the university has in the community,” says Mr. Wahl.

The two-part campaign, which began on Sept. 16, raised money for scholarships, faculty development, and academic support programs that cannot be funded by state dollars.

The campus drive was led by Drs. Hubert and Debra van Tuyll.
