The last book written by Dr. Ed Cashin— A Confederate Legend: Berry Benson in War and Peace—is now available, having just been released by the publisher, Mercer University Press. The biography chronicles the life of Berry Benson as he struggles to survive the American Civil War and Reconstruction.
Dr. Cashin, professor emeritus and chair emeritus of the Department of History at Augusta State, authored over twenty books including The Kings Ranger: Thomas Brown and the American Revolution on the Southern Frontier; Lachlan McGillivray, Indian Trader, the Shaping of the Southern Colonial Frontier; and William Bartram and the American Revolution on the Southern Frontier.
He is considered one of Georgia’s great historians, and his lifetime of historical research and publishing earned him a posthumous honor from the Georgia Historical Records and Advisory Board.
A native Georgian, Dr. Cashin spent most of his life in Augusta. He began teaching at Augusta College in 1969 and retired in 1996, after which he became founder and director of the Center for the Study of Georgia History.
